Wedding Photography vs. Nature Photography

My take on wedding photography

First off, did I tell you that I love nature photography :). Due to the fact that I have such a passion for my photography, many times I get asked if I can photograph weddings for my close family and friends. Don’t take it the wrong way, but the majority of the time I will decline unless the venue where the marriage is taking place is astonishing. Let me explain…

My passion for photos of nature

No it’s not the annoying family member nor is it me being envious of my friends, my comfort is just taking photos of the outdoors. The last thing I want is “not picture perfect” wedding photos that I took of my loved ones. Even if I don’t charge them a dime my biggest fear is that the marriage photos I take won’t turn out to expectation. Although, you need to get uncomfortable to expand your skill set right?

A memorable trip to Hawaii

I recently had the pleasure of traveling to Hawaii to see my best friend get married. His wedding was on the island of Oahu and let me tell you it was far from my thoughts on island life. The people in Hawaii are amazing and you can truly feel the love or “Aloha” as they like to call it, in the air. Everyone was so courtesy and it seemed that the locals of Hawaii really embrace the culture. The best part (that might help my career) is that I got to meet  Gigi Lee, who specializes in wedding officiating and photography. Ironically, Gigi use to have the same so-called “fear” of getting into wedding photography that I am currently facing. Let’s just say I was INSPIRED. That being said, I hope you look forward to my future blog posts ;).

My trip to Milford Sound

Astonishing views in Southwest New Zealand

Milford New Zealand

I finally got to take a road trip to one of my favorite locations in New Zealand… Milford Sound. Breathtaking views, astonishing waterfalls, a photographers dream. If you haven’t been to New Zealand and are planning to come in the future, then this destination is a must.

So much to see, so little time

Milford NZ

If you are thinking of coming to Milford, NZ be sure to at least schedule a three day trip. Myself being a New Zealand native, though I could cut it with a one day trip. Well I was defiantly wrong and next time I come to take photographs I will be sure to camp out or stay a night at one of the lodges. Even if you are not a photographer like myself there is so much to do in Milford Spring. Everything from kayaking, hiking, and cruises you won’t be disappointed. That being said go here if you want to find out more activities to partake in when visiting – Other than that I will leave you with some beautiful photography!

What is your passion?

My Passion is Photography

My name is Bobby K. I’m a wedding photographer based out of Auckland, New Zealand. I’m a story teller with my images and I love being able to create something tangible out of something that is very fleeting and quick.  That’s photography.

Freedom is key in my photography

The freedom for it to be anything you want it to be is exciting for me. A lot of the struggles that people have are actually executing what they want to do. It wasn’t until I started entering competitions or actually started to get feedback and critique from other photographers. It hurt at first but after my bruises healed I realized often that they were right. And all I did with that information was come back again next year with a better understanding of what works and what doesn’t work. I think the more that you actually exercise your creativity and your craft, the more you shoot, the better you get, the more mistakes that you make, the more you will learn from those mistakes.

A photographer’s obsession

I could not tell you where I rank on Google. I don’t have any idea. What I do is obsess over my photos and I obsess over my craft. That’s why the IQ250 is so exciting for me. The equipment is there and the rest is up to you. I got a lot of friends who work in advertising and commercial and generally, a lot of the other people they are working with don’t have anything personally at stake. Everyone is getting paid and the product has to be produced. What I enjoy is that I get to see the emotion that comes as a result of the work that I do.

Know what to say

For me that is it. If I’m having a tough week and I’m under the pump, I just need something like that to come through and it reminds me why I do what I do. Okay, everybody thinks we put shrimps on the barbecue. We don’t put shrimps on the barbecue. They are not even called shrimps, they are called prawns. Americans call them shrimps, we call them prawns.  We don’t barbecue them. So don’t come down and put a shrimp on the barbecue because you’ll upset someone. They will ask you to please remove it from the barbecue.  Anyways… welcome to my blog, much more to come!
